How It Works

When you sign up for the TradeUp program, you will receive an upfront credit towards the cost of the eligible phone by agreeing to return the phone, based on our return criteria, at the end of the 24-month term. This upfront credit is called the TradeUp Return Value which reduces your monthly MyTab payment.

When your TradeUp term ends, the TradeUp value on your device becomes due and your phone needs to be returned. You’ll have the option to:

  1. Keep your phone, pay monthly. This great new option lets you keep your phone, without the upfront payment. Return it to us and then immediately buy it back and spread the TradeUp value over a new 24-month term with MyTab+. Learn more about MyTab+.

  2. Keep your phone, pay in full. Settle the TradeUp value in one payment. The amount will be added to the bill following your TradeUp return date.

  3. Get a new phone. Return your current phone in-store in eligible condition and pick something new.

We’ll send you a reminder before your TradeUp return due date. The account holder will receive both a text and an email reminder. Authorized users and device users will receive a text reminder for the eligible line.

If the phone does not meet the return criteria or if you decide to keep the phone, the TradeUp Return Value plus applicable taxes will be charged to your next bill, unless you enroll into MyTab+. Alternatively, you can make an early payment for your TradeUp amount in MyAccount or with Customer Care. Contact us to get started.

If you find that you and your TradeUp phone aren’t a perfect match within 15 days of purchase, you can complete a return. Learn more about Freedom’s Return Policy.

Important: Check the TradeUp program conditions before you downgrade your plan or port out. These actions may cause some or all of your MyTab balance and all the Return Value on the phone to charge out. If your MyTab balance and Return Value are charged and you made a prepayment when setting up your service, that prepayment balance will be applied towards this adjustment. This means you may not need to make an additional payment.

TradeUp Return Eligibility

To complete a return, the phone must meet the following criteria:

  1. The phone must power on and navigate properly to the home screen.

  2. The phone must be able to accept and hold a charge.

  3. All passwords or access restrictions must be turned off or removed.

  4. The screen must function correctly and be undamaged (free of cracks, dark spots, blemishes, bruising or other damages).

  5. The rest of the TradeUp Phone must be undamaged with no cracks, missing parts or signs of water damage (hinges, keypad, housing, buttons, battery, etc.).

  6. All information must be wiped, and the TradeUp Phone must have the ability to perform a factory reset, so be sure to back it up. Refer to your device manufacturer’s user guide for more information on how to complete a factory reset on your phone:

The TradeUp return can only be completed by the account holder or an authorized user. If someone else needs to return it, you can add them as an authorized user on your account. Learn how to manage users on your account.
