About: Nationwide

Overview

When traveling outside our 'Freedom' network in Canada, you'll be connected to one of our partner networks and your phone will display 'Nationwide'. Many devices will also display “R” next to your signal strength to indicate that you are outside of the Freedom network.

Usage on our Nationwide network is included in most rate plans and Add-Ons. If your plan does not include Nationwide usage pay-per-use charges will apply when you are outside of our Freedom network.

Nationwide Plans

Usage on our Nationwide network is included in most rate plans and add-ons; in other cases, it is charged on a pay-per-use basis.

If we upgraded your plan to include more Nationwide data, there is no additional charge for those on eligible plans once the data bucket is upgraded to include Freedom & Nationwide data.

Please check your plan details in My Account  to see the coverage you have within the Nationwide area.

Freedom Nationwide

Freedom Nationwide is the portion of your plan that refers to the voice, text, and data that's available to you whether you're on Freedom or Nationwide.

For example, if you have 10 GB of Freedom Nationwide data, it's all yours to use across either Freedom or Nationwide.

Visit My Account  to check your rate plan details and enable Nationwide.

Device Compatibility

Most phones that are compatible with the Freedom network are also compatible with Nationwide. For the best experience, we recommend using a device that is VoLTE Roaming compatible.

To confirm if your device is compatible with VoLTE Roaming, check our device compatibility tool.

Troubleshooting your Connection

Sometimes your phone will pick up our roaming partners tower signal near the border of the Freedom network, when re-entering the Freedom network from the Nationwide network or while travelling in Quebec.

You can also manually select our Freedom network for your phone. Make sure that you are within the Freedom network coverage when you change these settings.

This will lock your phone on to the Freedom network signal if you'd like to use your phone while roaming in the Nationwide area, you'll need to switch back to "automatic network selection" using the same steps. You will also need to repeat the network selection process anytime you power up your phone after having it turned off. Check out our device guides for detailed steps on how to complete this on your device.

We are always working to expand and improve our network coverage. However, we cannot always guarantee that the services will be uninterrupted or error free. Please keep an eye on your home screen so that you know when you're connected to the Freedom network and when you might be charged for pay-per-use.

You can turn on or turn off data services while roaming in the Nationwide area or in the U.S. Just visit My Account and manage your opt-in features to opt-in or out of the "Nationwide or U.S. Roaming "Data" feature.
