How To: Troubleshoot Sending iMessages or RCS Messages

Overview

For the best experience using iMessage or RCS, we recommend using a Freedom Mobile plan that includes data.

How it Works

iMessage or RCS enabled devices with data plans will first default to send a chat message using mobile data or Wi-Fi. If a connection is unavailable, then the message will convert to SMS or MMS. Data and SMS or MMS charges may apply.

iMessages or RCS messages sent using mobile data or Wi-Fi require that the other party also have iMessage or RCS, respectively enabled on their device.

Plans with No Data

If your Freedom Mobile plan doesn’t include data, don’t worry, you’ll still be able to take advantage of iMessage or RCS while your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network. Keep in mind, once your device disconnects from Wi-Fi, your iMessages or RCS messages will not automatically convert to SMS or MMS. Your Messages app may prompt you to “Send as Text Message” or “Switch to text (SMS/MMS)”.
