Overview

If youre not using an eSIM, P6 or P6A SIM card, we recommend replacing your SIM card for a newer version. A newer SIM card will give you access to the best experience our network has to offer including 5G and 5G+.


Need to replace your SIM Card? Visit a warranty and repair centre for a free replacement.

SIM card changes can only be made by Account Holders and Authorized Users. eSIM availability is limited to once per billing cycle.

SIM Card Versions

To confirm what version of SIM card you are using, you’ll need to check the back of the SIM card for the version number. Refer to your device manufacturer’s user guide for more information on how to access your SIM card:

If you are using a P6 SIM card, text “SIM” to 40001 to ensure you get the best experience of the Freedom Mobile network.

Activating a SIM Card for New Service

If you would like to activate a physical SIM card for new Freedom service, please follow the steps below:

  1. Visit shop.freedommobile.ca/sim-activation.

  2. Enter your phone number and the SIM card number that was shipped to you.

  3. Pop out the SIM card size you need and insert it in your device.

  4. Once you turn your device on, you will receive a text message (to the first line you activate) that will include your temporary PIN.

For the best experience using your Freedom service we also recommend that you:

  • Download the Freedom Mobile My Account app if it's not yet installed on your phone from Google Play or the App Store.

  • Next, log into the Freedom Mobile My Account App and follow the prompts and follow the prompts to pick a new PIN. Set up a username and password and confirm your email address.

  • Finally, set up your voicemail by dialing 7-7-7, selecting option 3, and following the voice prompts.

Important: If you received the SIM card as part of a new device order, you must activate your new SIM within 30 days, otherwise your Service will be terminated and an early cancellation fee equal to any unpaid MyTab balance will be charged.

Changing a SIM Card for Existing Service

To complete a SIM card change for existing Freedom service log into MyAccount.

Once logged into My Account, follow the steps below to complete a SIM Card change:

  1. Navigate to the Plan & Device section.

  2. Click Manage SIM/eSIM. Learn more about eSIM.

  3. Select between a Physical SIM or eSIM.

  4. Accept the terms and conditions and click Confirm & Change SIM.

Important: To complete a change to eSIM, you’ll need to confirm your device is eSIM compatible by entering your device’s IMEI.
