About: Multi-Factor Authentication

Overview

To help protect your account from fraud, youll be required to verify your account using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) when accessing your Freedom account. MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring a verification code in addition to your PIN.

You can choose to receive your verification code by text message or email to your authorized email address.

MFA while Roaming

While travelling internationally, you can generally send and receive standard messages using your Freedom Mobile number, including regular person-to-person messages sent between mobile numbers. However, messages sent through short codes, such as 5-digit numbers used for account verification, may not be delivered.

This may affect your ability to access accounts, including your Freedom account or complete secure transactions that require verification.

Many services offer alternative verification methods that do no rely on receiving short code messages, such as:

  • Email verification

  • Voice call authentication

  • An authenticator app (such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator)

  • Push notifications through a mobile app

  • Biometric authentication (where available)

If you use short code messages to access accounts or services, we recommend you review the verification options available through those services before travelling.
